Alcoa Warrick Operations Accepting Alcoa Foundation Grant Applications

NEWBURGH, IN: December 19, 2005 - Alcoa Warrick Operations is accepting applications for grants from the Alcoa Foundation. Now through January 20, 2006, area nonprofit organizations can apply for more than $270,000 in Alcoa Foundation funds that will be distributed in the 2nd Quarter of 2006.

"Having the Foundation allows each Alcoa facility a tremendous opportunity to make a positive impact on our community," said Ann Whitty, Vice President and General Manager of Alcoa Warrick Operations. "Southwestern Indiana is fortunate to have so many outstanding nonprofit organizations that work to improve our local quality of life. We look forward to seeing the projects that are proposed and learning more about the good work that is being done in our community."

In 2005, Warrick Operations granted nearly $270,000 to 29 nonprofit organizations working in Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties. Additionally, $50,000 in Alcoa Foundation Disaster Relief Funds were secured following the November 6th tornado. By the end of 2005, Alcoa Foundation will distribute more than $15 million around the world by.

To apply for a grant, nonprofit organizations must submit a letter no later than January 20, 2006 on organization letterhead signed by the President or Executive Director. The letter should be no more than 2 pages in length, and should address:

  • The organization's Employer Identification Number (EIN, "501c3 designated" number)
  • The amount requested from Alcoa Foundation
  • How the project meets one or more of Alcoa Foundation's Areas of Excellence
  • The community need(s) that will be addressed
  • Planned objectives and activities, and who will benefit from them
  • How the benefits will be measured in relation to activities, achievement of objectives, possible partnerships, outcomes and impacts on the community
  • How the organization plans to continue the project past the term of the grant
  • Complete Contact information (mailing address, phone & fax numbers, E-mail address)

In addition to the letter, the organization must submit an official Project Budget using this form:

The proposals will be reviewed by the Warrick Operations Community Advisory Board - a group of elected officials, business leaders, nonprofit managers, media representatives, and Alcoa managers. All organizations will hear by March 15, 2006 as to whether their project will be recommended to Alcoa Foundation for funding.
