Red Brush Road Updates
Current and Upcoming Activities
September 2008
  • Dewatering of the Y Pit has started.
  • Roads are going in from Red Brush north and from the pond going South.  From 66 to Red Brush is complete with the exception of surfacing (grading is done).  Vigo is using this section for hauling coal, but Alcoa is not using it for gypsum at this time.
  • Principal excavation should be done in mid-September – this work is being done by W.B. Koester.  The road work being done by Claybourn Farms.
  • Alcoa is close to awarding contracts for hauling gypsum and ash.  There will be one additional excavation contract (to cut slopes down on sides of pit) and then a contract for operation of the project (haulage, maintenance of roads).
  • The gypsum that will be going to the wallboard maker will be hauled to downtown Evansville for loading into barge for transfer down the river.  That will be the process until the barge loading facilities at Alcoa are complete sometime in 2009.
    • Alcoa continues to work on other manufacturers to take our gypsum.  No firm contracts yet, but options are being seriously worked.
