Alcoa Recognized For Environmental Excellence by Texarkana Water Utilities

Texarkana, Ark., April 20, 2005 - Alcoa was recognized for the second year in a row by the Texarkana Water Utilities for environmental excellence by achieving 100% compliance in the department's Industrial Pretreatment Program. The award was the result of meeting the city's stringent requirements and undergoing thorough inspections.

Alcoa Texarkana Environmental, Health and Safety Manager Greg Felling was presented the award from Nash Mayor James Bramlett and Lisa White, TWU Environmental Supervisor, during a ceremony at Nash City Hall earlier this month. "A lot of effort and diligence is required by Alcoa Texarkana employees to ensure that we achieve and maintain 100% compliance," said Felling. "We are extremely proud and honored to receive the award again."

The Texarkana Water Utilities administers the Industrial Pretreatment Program, which is mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The purpose of the program is to protect the sewer collection system, the wastewater treatment plants, public safety and the environment. Texarkana Water Utilities is a joint department of the Cities of Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas which provides water and sewer services to both cities and the surrounding area.
