Teaching Students Business - Virtually

Alcoa Mt. Holly of Goose Creek invested a $14,000 Alcoa Foundation grant in a virtual business program that teaches high school students the essentials of running their own business – including how to manage a salary and survive on two weeks of vacation a year. The Virtual Enterprise Program teaches Straford High School students in Goose Creek how to launch, run, and finance their own virtual businesses by pitting them against the realities of payroll, marketing, distribution – and daily life. Representatives from the Alcoa plant attended a class, where they presented the Alcoa Foundation grant. The course teaches the skills Alcoa seeks in future employees: good problem solving and an understanding of core business principles.
