Alcoa volunteers paint and provide funds

LANCASTER, May 22, 2004 - Employees from Alcoa's Lancaster facility worked side-by-side with faculty and student families at La Academia's Lancaster Partnership Charter School to paint the school's interior walls. As an Alcoa ACTION (Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighborhoods) project, this community activity at the 30 North Ann Street school received a $3000 grant from the Alcoa Foundation. In addition to the volunteer time and grant, employees donated school supplies for the students.

Carlos Graupera, SACA Executive Director, said, "We are grateful to the good people at Alcoa for their support of an inner city school. Charter schools such as ours cannot succeed without deep support from the entire community, especially the business community. And this is an example of the type of collaboration that we need at this time."

"Alcoa Lancaster employees frequently volunteer with projects like this as a way to create value in the Lancaster community," said Steve Fries, manager of human resources development and communications for Alcoa Lancaster.

ACTION (Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighborhoods) is an Alcoa employee engagement program managed by Alcoa Foundation. The program encourages teams of Alcoa employees to spend a minimum of 4 hours on a community service project for a local nonprofit organization. As recognition of their efforts, Alcoa will make a grant to the nonprofit organization.
