Alcoa Intalco Works Supports Soccer in Whatcom County
|
Alcoa Intalco Works recently stepped forward to become a significant supporter of soccer and healthy lifestyles in Whatcom County. The Ferndale based aluminum smelter committed to a two-year agreement with the Whatcom Sports Commission to partner in the maintenance of one soccer field at Northwest Soccer Park and support the Whatcom Soccer Academy.
Alcoa Intalco Works Plant Manager Mike Rousseau said soccer represented such an important aspect of life for many people in Whatcom County, making the partnership relevant and very valuable.
"Health and wellbeing are important aspects of Alcoa's values and this partnership supports both," Mr. Rousseau said.
Northwest Soccer Park, home for Whatcom County youth and adult soccer, is located at the corner of Smith Road & Northwest Drive. This partnership will help defray costs that would otherwise be passed on to the nearly 8,000 registered soccer participants that utilize Northwest Soccer Park from March through November.
The Soccer Academy provides five week-long summer youth camps to children in the county. The funding will help ….

They are such a well respected company in our community and will be great to have them associated with our facility for the next two years. I know in my discussions with their representative that health and fitness are important components for their organization and they have extended this commitment to our community as a whole through their support." said Lance Calloway, Executive Director for the Whatcom Sports Commission.
Northwest Soccer Park, located at the corner of Smith Road and Northwest Drive, is home of over 6,300 youth soccer players between the ages of 5-18 and over 1,600 men and women in Whatcom County.
The Whatcom Sports Commission is a non-profit corporation specifically developed to build, operate, and maintain quality athletic facilities for youth and adult sports enthusiasts in Whatcom County. WSC operates Northwest Soccer Park and the Sportsplex Ice and Indoor Soccer Arenas.
