Partnership Announced to Add Nurse Practitioner at Local Clinic
NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - OCT. 17, 2007 - Alcoa Technical Center announced today that Alcoa Foundation is granting more than $160,000 to non-profit organizations in the Alle-Kiski Valley region to benefit veterans, middle school students, the elderly, victims of violence and the economically disadvantaged.

As part of Alcoa Foundation's investment in the Alle-Kiski Valley region, Alcoa Technical Center has formed a two-year community partnership with the Community Health Clinic of New Kensington to add a nurse practitioner to the clinic's staff.
"We are pleased to partner with Alcoa Technical Center to make primary health care more accessible to low-income residents in the region," said Josephine Guy, Chief Executive Officer of the Community Health Clinic. "This new position will enable the clinic to expand services by 30 percent to those most in need."
Alcoa Technical Center presented the Clinic with a $102,000 grant over two years, with $68,000 being disbursed in 2007.
"The communities in the Alle-Kiski Valley region are part of Alcoa's history, as our company's first major plant was in New Kensington and Upper Burrell is home to ATC, where Alcoa employs 600 researchers, scientists and technicians who are developing the next-generation of Alcoa's products and processes," said Bill Cassada, Director of Research. "The Alcoa Foundation grants are just one way that Alcoa gives back to the local community, and it's rewarding to know that the funds will be used by organizations that are working hard to improve the quality of life of our neighbors."
The grants were presented during a luncheon held at the Alcoa Technical Center Lab Lodge in celebration of Alcoa's Month of Service. Now in its second year, the Alcoa Month of Service is a dedicated time that the company's locations around the world hold community service events - partnering with local nonprofit organizations for maximum impact - and recognize their employee volunteers. More than 400 events in 27 countries are planned this year during the Month of Service. At Alcoa Technical Center, employees are participating in more than a dozen volunteer events with local community organizations and are gathering more than 1,000 volunteer hours in October alone.
In addition to the Community Health Clinic, the recipients of grants from Alcoa Technical Center this year are:
