On Monday 9th, we carried out an Action! voluntary activity in collaboration with "Banco de Alimentos" (Bank of Food), association that manages donations of food and distributes them among NGOs that support people without economic resources.
12 volunteers counted and packed 5.000 kilos of food collected with the campaign "Operación Kilo" in order to distribute it equally among the associations of the city. These associations supports in different ways people (offers a "shelter" or feed people with economic lacks, supports people in social exclusion conditions in order to get their social inclusion, etc.)
We began counting the donated food, we introduced the data into a computer program in order to know the amount of products to be packed for each NGO (the amount of food corresponding to each NGO was equally determined in correspondence with the number of people that integrates it) and afterwards we packed the products.
The best reward for the volunteers is to know that our "work feeds people". In fact, the present year, Alcoa volunteers helped also in April to this association. 17 people: 14 Alcoa employees (1 Union's Member) + 1 wife + 2 friends of Alcoans participated in the action. In that case, they received 9.000 kilos of food and our help consisted in classified the donated food and do packages for distributed them among the NGOs of A Coruña.
In year 2007, more than 4 hours of our voluntary activity/each day with this NGO plus 3.000$ donated by Alcoa Foundation show our support with "Banco de Alimentos".
