Alcoa in La Coruña

The Alcoa plant in La Coruña, which is situated in the La Grela industrial park, has two lines of electrolysis and foundry furnaces. It produces primary aluminium via electrolysis in a variety of alloys and formats, such as slabs for rolling, billets for extrusion and rod for both the Spanish and European markets. It also produces electro-metallurgic paste for electric ovens.

Alcoa is currently implementing innovative technology at this primary aluminium plant which represents a US$ 49,8 million investment and will allow the Galician center to confront future environmental challenges.

The modernization project is part of Alcoa's strategy for sustainable development, environmental leadership and technical innovation for the challenges that the 21st century pose for the industry.

Continuous Investment Effort
The Alcoa center in La Coruña is immersed in an intense continuous improvement policy which is accompanied by investor effort primarily oriented toward environmental and labour health improvements. It has achieved the ISO 14001 environmental certification for all of its activities which have taken place since 2002.
