Aviles completes environmental upgrade
The Alcoa smelter in Aviles has finished a $55 million upgrade project successfully and on time, which will improve the plant's compliance with higher environmental standards set by the European Union.

Cooking Workshops
On Thursday 27th, an action Plan was developed in Gozon. The target was to prepare different kind of food (sweets, cookies and elaborated food) for Proyecto Hombre association, which gives refuge to the drug-dependent people.

Salinas Beach -- Environmental Cleanup
Last 23rd October, a group of 60 Alcoa volunteers together with students and teachers of Salinas High School and members of Castrillón Council helped clean up and recycle trash at Espartal dunes, located in the natural area called Salinas Beach. In addition, Alcoa Foundation donated USD 3000 to Salinas High School.

Alcoa Foundation project: Cleaning the Arlos River
On June 26, a group of 37 Alcoa Volunteers and members of Asociación de Vecinos Santa Bárbara, a neighborhood community association, worked together in order to clean the Arlos River banks and bed as well as surrounding areas.

Giving Vida to the community
25 Alcoa volunteers, the plant manager included, spent part of the day to clean, adequate, install a fence, prepare the land for a garden and install external benches around the building of the Association San Martín de Bocines.

Alcoa Foundation promotes a "Values Cinema" at schools in Avilés
The initiative - promoted by the Alcoa Center in Avilés and organized by the Fundación de Ayuda Contra la Drogadicción (Endowment for Aid Against Drug Addiction) - seeks to instill values that stimulate social and personal development among minors, teaching them positive attitudes and strengthening their inclination toward healthy leisure activities.
