Samara Casthouse Completes Installation of New Slab Cutting Line

Samara Casthouse has completed installation of a new slab cutting line. This is an important investment project for the Casthouse. It complements a number of other investment projects that aim to  streamline the  technological route of slab production for Flat-Rolled Products. The installation of the new line  along with Casting Complexes  #1 and #16  is part of the Casthouse strategic development plan  to reduce  conversion cost.

The new strap saw (Sermas) is fully automated. Its cut width of about 2 mm (30 mm - at the previous saw) allows to reduce the amount of scrap and saves $360,000 per year in remelting. The new strap has drastically increased cut accuracy. Besides, it is much safer because it is fenced and equipped with a safety system that automatically turns off the power in case of an unauthorized access.
