International Day for the Elderly at Alcoa SMZ

Samara – For many years Samara metallurgical plant (Alcoa SMZ) has been celebrating International Day for the Elderly. The festivities embrace more than just the official date, October 1st, they traditionally include a number of events for plant veterans.

In September this year core business-units of Alcoa SMZ (Extrusions-Forgings, Casthouse and Flat-Rolled Products) held meetings with their veterans. For the special guests the BUs organized plant tours, presentations and meetings with the current generation of employees. As a rule, the BU leaders were acting as hosts, they spoke about innovations and toured the shops along with the guests. During traditional tea-parties that followed plant tours the veterans were socializing with the young employees, spoke about the plant and work in earlier times, about construction and development of the largest metallurgical plant in Europe.

Such meetings are an old and heart-warming tradition of the location. Mikhail Spichak, Location Manager of Alcoa SMZ, always emphasizes the importance of generation-to-generation ties. In the speech he delivered to the veterans during a meeting in September he said: "Today, as never before, our young employees need an example of dedicated work that our veterans demonstrate. We think it is important for young people to know the  plant’s honorable history and the people who forged the history on their own”.

The veterans thanked the plant management for the warm welcome and wished production achievements and safe work.

On October 16 at 14.00 deserved employees will be able to see a traditional concert dedicated to the Day for the Elderly. The concert will take place in Metallurg Culture House.
