The Kawneer Lethbridge facility is located in the Province of Alberta, Canada, approximately 250 km southeast of Calgary. The facility manufactures aluminum architectural products that include window systems, curtain walls, stock and custom doors. Operations consist of a 2,500-ton extrusion press, anodizing, electrostatic spray painting and fabrication. The plant began operations in 1983, with Alcoa managing operations since 1998 as a result of the Alumax, Inc. merger. The facility is unionized (Canadian Auto Workers) and employs a total workforce of 242 employees. The plant encompasses 250,000 square feet under roof.
Several key strengths contributed in very significant ways to the overall success of Lethbridge Operations this year. In 2002, this facility produced more material using less man-hour per pound and with fewer injuries than at any time in its history. Production, efficiencies, and sales were much higher than ever before and despite a 33% increase in the workforce this year, overall injuries were reduced by 50% over 2001. This clearly demonstrates the falsehood that safety and production are counteractive and all employees at Kawneer Lethbridge should take great pride in their efforts and achievements in 2002. |
