Alcoa Trasformazioni Srl. - Italy (Portovesme)
Overview
Our future is linked to the future of our communities. And we are driven by the conviction that part of being the best company in the world is being the best company in our communities.

Here are some ways we are involved in the community:

Sardinian hero

Alcoa Portovesme, Sardinia Italy, hosted a ceremony honoring Ing. (Engineer) Giorgio Carta, considered the greatest modern Sardinian industrialist. Born in 1914, he is recognized for introducing modern mining to Sardinia, establishing central electric power with connections to the Italian mainland, creating Alsar, the primary aluminum plant eventually bought by Alcoa, restructuring shipyards to fit larger ships carrying bauxite, promoting coal gasification, and for supporting many other initiatives that now sustain the Sardinian economy. Government, social and cultural leaders were in attendance, and Mr. Ing. Carta's daughter, Giovanna, unveiled a remembrance sculpture made by a plant employee.

An ACTION team from Portovesme rolled up their sleeves to paint and do brick repair at the Centro di Pronto Intervento, a center that provides respite to the city's needy persons. They renovated the building, making it more comfortable for the people it serves.

Portovesme and Alcoa celebrate 5 years of community support

The folk group Mariamunserrara Tratalias performed as part of an anniversary gathering of Alcoans, all the mayors of the communities of the territory, political representatives, the bishop, national and regional union representatives, and all of the associations Alcoa Foundation has provided grants to in the last five years.

Alcoa Foundation helps renovate youth meeting center

Like many towns, Villarios-Giba, Sardinia, Italy, was short on facilities offering young people direction and long on circumstances that could lead them down the wrong path. But with the support of the church, school, and local businesses, the nonprofit Associazione S. Antonio has begun offering after-school tutoring, homework help, and sports, music, and theater programs. Soon, young people will gather in a meeting hall that is being renovated with the help of an Alcoa Foundation grant.
