Alcoa-Köfém Wins City of Székesfehérvár Environmental Award Again
Each year the city of Székesfehérvár bestows two Environmental Awards, one in the industrial, one in the private sector. Companies located in the city can apply for the industrial award based on their efforts and performance with regard to environmental protection and beautification of the city. Though a number of large multinationals operating in Székesfehérvár have applied for the award, it is Alcoa-Köfém that has won it again, the second year in a row. In 2002, Alcoa-Köfem has mainly financed a clean-up project of a municipality-owned area in the plant neighbourhood and planted about 2000 trees privately and in local primary schools. In addition, Alcoa conducted environmental protection courses for kids and teachers of local primary schools in a joint program with Denso, a Japanese company located at Székesfehérvár.
The decision of the city is widely publicized in the region. The award not only highlights Alcoa's high environmental standards, it also contributes to further enhancing its good relationship with the local municipality. Last but not least, the local media reported with enthusiasm about the award, which further strengthens Alcoa's reputation among local population.
