AWPC Celebrates 25 Million Wheels
Alcoa Wheel Products of Collingwood Ontario, Canada celebrated the casting of 25 million aluminum wheels recently. In the past three years, AWP of Collingwood has reduced scrap by 50%, injuries by 60% and improved productivity by 25%. In addition to these changes, the plant will be hiring 51 additional permanent and temporary employees as the plant moves from a 5-day schedule to a 7-day schedule. Plant manager Gene Ramsey thanked employees for the 16 years of hard work accountable for the benchmark. “It was the employees,” he noted, “who made the improvements and sometimes sacrifices necessary to see the much needed productivity gains.”
