Alcoa's unit in Sorocaba, its Tool-making Center, has been in municipality, in São Paulo State, since 1990 and manufactures aluminum extrusion tools and accessories for other Alcoa units in Brazil.
Alcoa in Sorocaba has been contributing to extrusion units throughout Brazil via implementation of ABS that guarantees that deliveries are swiftly made (98% of the tools are delivered in five days) and that the tools that are manufactured are both excellent and cheap. It uses highly advanced technology for making extrusion tools that was developed in the Alcoa Technical Center (ATC).
Sorocaba is 96 km from the capital, São Paulo and the unit is active in the local community with several of the Company's social responsibility programs, such as Action, BRAVO! and BRAVO! Brasil and with activities such as recreation, donations and tree planting. The unit has always encouraged employees to do voluntary work and today many of them are heavily involved with it.
From 2005 to 2007 the unit came first in the Social Responsibility Prize competition, promoted by the Association of Human Resources Professionals (APRH), in which various companies are assessed as to the services they provide to the community. |
