As a reflection of the Company’s responsible attitude Alcoa’s units have been increasingly involved with socially responsible activities. For example, in August 2007 the extruded products area launched an unprecedented initiative focused on the Inclusion Program, the objective of which is to hire and train handicapped people. All employees in the Business Unit received a mailshot at home inviting them to take part in the Program and to indicate people with special needs who want to work for Alcoa. Subsequently, these indications will be sent to a specialist consultancy company that will help in the selection process of the professionals. Another initiative aimed at handicapped people was the donation of funds to the ACIDE (Deficiency Citizenship Association) to purchase a heater for their swimming pool and to help the physically handicapped that need physiotherapy.
