In its voluntary activities the plant has contributed in an excellent way, because more than 90% of the employees are actively involved in some way or another in volunteer activities, the aim of which are to provide well-being and improve the living standards of the community. Between 1973 and 2007 more than R$ 20 million were donated to the community, with funds coming from the Alcoa Foundation, the Alcoa Institute and from the unit itself, for partnerships for making community projects – most of them directed at the education and health areas – and volunteer programs viable.
Among the projects that have benefited are the construction of the scientific research laboratory and the lodgings for the researchers from the Poços de Caldas Botanical Garden Foundation, which received money form the Alcoa Foundation.
