Poços de Caldas Smelter
Located in southern Minas Girais state, Brazil, the Poços de Caldas plant was the first of Alcoa Alumínio’s units in Brazil. The unit produces calcinated and hydrated alumina, metal in the molten state, billets, ingots and aluminum powder, which, of all Alcoa’s units in Latin America, is only produced in Brazil.
Nearly 65% of the alumina produced is used in the production of aluminum. The other 35% is earmarked for aluminum sulfate, paper, titanium dioxide, lens and metal polishing, sodium aluminates, flame retardant, glass pigment manufacture, ceramics, abrasives and electro-fusion industries.
