The Itapissuma (Pernambuco) unit has been part of Alcoa Alumínio S.A. since 1981, when ASA - Alumínio S.A was acquired. In this plant, which is Alcoa Latin America's most business-diverse industrial complex, extruded and laminated products and closures are made.

The products manufactured in Itapissuma serve countless markets. Extruded profiles are used in the transport, machinery and equipment, electrical, consumer goods and civil construction sectors, while laminated products go to the pharmaceutical, food, civil construction, automobile, naval, textile, household goods and bicycle sectors.

Alcoa, which is located 35 km from the Pernambuco state capital on the banks of the Santa Cruz Channel, one of the state's important mangrove swamp areas, distinguishes itself with its respect for the environment. The ecosystem that forms part of the company's landscape and the environmental awareness of each employee merely confirm the philosophy followed by the company worldwide.

Since the beginning, back in 1981, Alcoa has been actively involved with more than 300 community actions and projects and it really started hitting the headlines when it implemented the BRAVO! Program. In 2006, 643 Alcoa employees dedicated a total of 32,000 hours to voluntary work on behalf off the community. In the social responsibility and sustainability field, through the Alcoa Foundation and the Alcoa Institute, the Company, in its community relations initiatives, has invested more than US$ 2 million in entities in the communities where it operates.
