A two-story house, with a lookout basement, which was built in 1908, is the property that houses Alcoa’s unit in Belém (PA). Preserved and protected by the National Institute of Historical, Artistic and Cultural Heritage (Iphan), the Department of Historical, Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the Para State Department of Culture, the Historic Center of Belém and municipal authorities via the Cultural Foundation of Belém (Funbel), the property has been fully restored since July 2008 and houses the company’s Government Relations, Institutional and Mining Affairs areas.
The location is also home to a permanent exhibition, “Alcoa Space: Aluminum and Sustainability”. Visitors can find out how bauxite is transformed into alumina and aluminum, and learn of the products resulting from this process and how they are present in people’s lives. They can also obtain corporate information about Alcoa, its operations in Brazil and the world and especially in the Juruti Mine, and the social and environmental actions that are being developed in Pará.
The house also has a small auditorium that can seat up to 30 people and a cultural space for temporary art exhibitions and other social activities. |
