Alcoa Australia Rolled Products operates an aluminium rolling mill and recycling facility at Yennora in Western Sydney and an aluminium rolling mill at Point Henry near Geelong in Victoria.

The Alcoa Australia Rolled Products facility at Yennora is the largest of its kind in Australia and recycles over 70,000 tonnes of scrap aluminium each year.  Aluminium can recycling uses only 5 per cent of the energy needed to make a new can from scratch.  Alcoa Australia Rolled Products processes half a billion cans through its remelt furnace annually, playing a significant role in reducing industry requirements for natural resources and diverting waste from landfill.

The business produced over 180,000 tonnes of rolled product in 2006, around half of which was produced at Yennora.  Over 50 per cent of product is exported, mainly to rapidly growing markets in Asia.  You will see our products in aluminium beverage cans and wine screw top closures.

Alcoa Australia Rolled Products employs about 220 people at Yennora, and contributes around $20 million in direct wages to the Western Sydney region.

Alcoa Australia Rolled Products Yennora site operates under a NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) licence and has committed to producing an Environmental Improvement Plan in consultation with the local community every two years.

A 20 per cent reduction in water usage has been achieved since 2003 and strategies for further savings are in process.  The site has ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system.

In 2005, Alcoa Australia Rolled Products established a Community Consultation Committee comprising local residents, local government, and the NSW EPA.  This group meets regularly to discuss a broad range of issues relating to all aspects of Alcoa’s Yennora operations.

Alcoa Australia Rolled Products is a proud partner of community organisations in the Sydney region, focusing on raising awareness of the benefits of recycling for the environment.  Partnerships with organisations such as Keep Australia Beautiful are part of these efforts.

Alcoa Australia Rolled Products at Yennora provides scholarships for metallurgy students and vocational internships for mechanical and electrical engineering students.  The site also supports vocational education and training for secondary school students.

Educational tours of the Alcoa Australia Rolled Products recycling facility and rolling mill are available free of charge.  Bookings are essential, call 02 9681 9554 for more information.
