Portland Aluminium Community Partnerships (Sponsorships)
Under our banner of ‘Partnering Stronger Communities’, Alcoa Portland Aluminium forms partnerships with community organisations to strengthen the communities in which we work. Stronger communities create opportunities for people and organisations to work together to bring about economic, social and environmental benefits for all of us.
By supporting worthwhile initiatives in the fields of education, environment, sport and culture, health and wellbeing, and safety, Alcoa actively works toward building stronger and sustainable communities and our goal of being the best company in the world and a neighbour of choice.
Alcoa Portland Aluminium’s partnership program isn’t just about financial support. In some instances, the plant can provide material donations, in-kind support or volunteer assistance that can be far more valuable to a community organisation and our business.
All decisions on partnerships are made by the Portland Aluminium Community Support (PACS) group – a diverse team of employees including operators, union officials and management.
Any organisation that wants to apply for funds must complete an Alcoa Portland Aluminium Partnership Application Form. Because of the time in making decisions and administration of paperwork, it is necessary to submit applications at least two months before funds are required. For major partnerships, considerably more time is often required.
Major partners
Alcoa Portland Aluminium’s major partners include the Portland and District Principals’ Association and United Way Glenelg.
Alcoa Portland Aluminium has supported United Way Glenelg, a charitable organisation that raises funds for health and human care initiatives within the region, since United Way set up in Portland more than five years ago. In 2004, Portland Aluminium contributed $23,000 to United Way. In addition, Portland Aluminium employees contribute to United Way through payroll deductions and a number of employees are members of the United Way Glenelg Board.
Sustainable Schools
Alcoa Portland Aluminium supports education and training in the local community through a major partnership with local government and non-government schools in primary and secondary years. The Portland and District Principals’ Association partner Portland Aluminium across a range of diverse areas including health and safety, leadership, conservation and land management, and arts and culture.
