Minister Mullings Praises Jamalco Workers

Minister of Energy, Mining and Telecommunications, the Hon. Clive Mullings praised the Jamalco workforce for the job they are doing to ensure that the bauxite/alumina industry remains an important pillar in Jamaica’s development.  The Minister was speaking recently to a cross-section of the workforce at a luncheon to welcome him to the operations.

Minister Mullings, and the Minister of State with responsibility for mining, Hon. Laurence Broderick, were visiting Jamalco for the first time since taking office.  Managing Director Jerome Maxwell and other company executives took the government officials on a guided tour of the company’s mining operations, refinery, residue disposal areas and its port at Rocky Point.

The minister said the workers were “unsung heroes” and said he found the operations “fascinating” and was impressed with the focus on safety.

He noted that energy was the greatest challenge to Jamalco’s operations and promised that he and Minister Broderick would do all that is possible to alleviate this challenge.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry Dr. Jean Dixon, Commissioner of Mines Clinton Thompson, Executive Director of the Jamaica Bauxite Institute Parris Lyew Ayee and other ministry officials accompanied the minister on the tour.
