Several Clarendon businesses, including Jamalco, have come to the assistance of the new Foga Road High School in that parish. They were responding to requests for help from the school’s principal Kerinth Campbell.

The school, opened in 2007 with Grade 7 students, hosted an appreciation ceremony recently to recognize Jamalco, Guardian Life (May Pen Branch), Epic Hardware, Tait's Pharmacy, Sunshine Pharmacy and the Netball Association of Jamaica for making donations. Ms Campbell said the institution had sought help from corporate Jamaica to address its many needs. She noted that companies in May Pen were buying into the school and thanked the organizations for contributing to the education of the students. Rupert Bartley of Jamalco’s Railroad department presented the company’s gift of furniture and appliances which included filing cabinets, a teacher’s desk, an office refrigerator, a computer and books. Jamalco’s Public and Community Relations Administrator Pamela White told the students and staff that the bauxite and alumina company was committed to education as demonstrated through several programmes it had established to assist in the education and development of young people. She congratulated the school for its progress so far adding that Jamalco was happy to respond to its needs. Guardian Life presented trestle tables and folding chairs; Epic Hardware provided lumber to construct shelves in the school library; Sunshine and Tait’s Pharmacies gave first aid/medical supplies and the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) handed out a set of bibs to the school’s netballers. Foga Road High has 231 grade seven students on roll, 15 teachers and 14 administrative/support staff. A full compliment of staff and students from grade 7 to grade 11 will be in place by 2011.
