Jamalco’s Women Reach out to Jamaica Reach to Recovery

The Alcoa Women’s Network, Jamalco Chapter donated $50,000 to the Jamaica Reach to Recovery recently. The funds donated are part proceeds of the money raised at the Chapter’s Pink Party held last October.

Deputy Chairman of the Jamaica Reach to Recovery Carolind Graham who was on hand to accept the cheque thanked the AWN for extending a hand of kindness to the organization. “It is not often that the organization is given funds so we are extremely grateful for this gesture,” she said. Mrs. Graham noted that the Jamaica Reach to Recovery uses the donations received to assist breast cancer survivors. “We are a group of about 100 women who volunteer our time to provide mental, emotional, spiritual and financial support for breast cancer survivors. We think this is important because when a woman loses a breast her self esteem is undermined,” she added. She used the opportunity to encourage the AWN members to do their breast examinations monthly as early detection saves lives. She also invited Jamalco to participate in the organization’s annual fund raiser, ‘Relay for Life’ on October 27. Jamaica Reach to Recovery is a voluntary group of breast cancer survivors, friends and well- wishers who meet on the second Tuesday of every month at the Jamaica Cancer Society, 16 Lady Musgrave Road offer on a group and on a one to one basis, emotional and psychological support to breast cancer survivors, their families and friend.
