Alcoa Foundation Cops United Way’s Jupiter Award

The Alcoa Foundation is again the recipient of one of United Way Jamaica’s 2011 top Nation Builders Award. The Foundation received a Jupiter Award for contributing over $10 million to United Way during 2011.

Managing D i r e c t o r Jerome Maxwell was also the recipient of an individual Gold award for personally contributing over $100,000 to this NGO that supports community development. The awards were presented at a special Nation Builders & Employee Awards Ceremony on Thursday May 31, 2012 which recognized outstanding organizations and volunteers for their philanthropy in 2011. In accepting the awards, Mr. Maxwell thanked United Way for its partnership in Jamalco’s community development programme over the years. “United Way has been a valuable partner in the execution of Jamalco’s community projects and we cherish that partnership. He added that volunteering is a part of our company’s values and we will continue to support the development of our communities and seek to improve the lives of people who rely on us for encouragement and sponsorship.” Mr. Maxwell also congratulated United Way for being true to their mission for the past 27 years in helping to increase the capacity of people to care for each other. The organization brings together donors, volunteers and agencies to promote initiatives for the betterment of disadvantaged persons in our communities. This year, the Highest Corporate Donor Award went to Victoria Mutual Building Society and Dr. the Hon. Usain Bolt received the Highest Individual Donor Award.
