Jamalcoans Mark National Tree Planting Day

National Tree Planting Day was observed on October 5 and team members from Jamalco’s operating areas visited several schools to plant trees and perform other activities as part of Alcoa’s Month of Service  (MOS).

The play field of the Holy Cross Basic School in South Manchester received a facelift on Friday, October 5 when 23 Jamalcoans from the Mines Department were out in ACTION (Alcoans Coming Together in Our Neighborhoods).

The employees debushed and groomed the school’s play field and planted ornamental trees to commemorate National Tree Planting Day. Principal, Delza Smith expressed gratitude to Jamalco for its support and emphasized that the effort of the volunteers was highly appreciated.

Community Relations Officer Natalee Irving thanked all the volunteers for their assistance. She said that the funds the from the Alcoa Foundation (US$3000.00) will be used to improve the school’s play area.

Over at the York Town Primary School Sennior Community Relations Officer Phillip Biggs discussed the importance of trees with the students. This was followed by the planting of ornamental trees around the perimeter fence.

Students at Ashley All-Age in Mocho Clarendon were very happy to plant their ornamental trees that Community Relations Officer Errol Davy delivered.
