Jamalco Community Health Fair Helps Eighty

Eighty residents  from the New Bowens community in Clarendon received medical assistance and counseling at a Community Health Fair organized by Jamalco at the Glad Tidings Church of the First Born in that community recently.

The health fair was organized by the bauxite/alumina company as part of its on-going community outreach programme.

Nurse Practitioner Claudette Walters-Simpson of Jamalco’s Medical Department said the health fair was “in keeping with Jamalco’s focus on Environmental Health and Safety and is an extension of the company’s Wellness Programme for its workforce”.

Jamalco’s Dr. Leroy Hayman and the Clarendon Health Department’s Dr. Keriesha Donegel examined twenty-nine clients and the health team offered tests for blood pressure, height, weight, waist/hip ratio, body mass index, random blood sugar and cholesterol.  They also offered visual screening and counseling.

Twenty-eight of the eighty persons seen received referrals to the Lions Club of Clarendon for further visual tests.
The health fair was the first of several to be hosted by Jamalco during the year to benefit persons living in its host communities.
