Sunset Football Club is 2009 Jamalco Football League Champions

Sunset Football Club of Cornpiece Settlement in Hayes, Clarendon was crowned winners of 2009 Jamalco Football League competition at an action packed finals where they beat New Bowens two goals to one. 

The final matches were played on Saturday, September 12 at Jamalco Sports Club, Halse Hall, Clarendon.
 
At half time both teams were locked at nil all, but soon after play started in the second half Sunset settled down with good combinations and landed their first goal in the 59th minute compliments of Michael Dixon.
 
New Bowens was reduced to ten players in the 80th minute of play when Davion Mitchell was shown a red card for serious foul play.
 
Although one man short New Bowens went on the attack and during time added on for stoppage they silenced the vociferous Sunset supporters by hitting the net, thanks to a penalty which was booted home by Peter Brown.
 
With five minutes of extra time remaining Sunset’s Clayton Bell scored a beauty which got the Sunset supporters excited.  They defended stoutly for the rest of the match and so registered their first lien on the Jamalco Trophy which was presented to them by Jamalco’s Corporate Services and Government Affairs Manager Leo Lambert.
 
In congratulating the winning team, Mr. Lambert informed the large crowd of chairing spectators that the company had increased their sponsored of the competition, and is aiming to field a team in the National Premier League Football competition.
 
In the third place decider earlier in the afternoon Napoli beat Top Hill 4-1.
