The Alcoa smelter in Aviles has finished a $55 million upgrade project successfully and on time, which will improve the plant's compliance with higher environmental standards set by the European Union. Alcoa completed the project on budget as well as with approximately 350.000 hours worked without any accidents. The Aviles project uses advanced new smelting technology that will rank the plant among the best in the world in its class.
