Like twinkling stars

More than two hundred elementary school students in East Iceland have been presented with reflector vests by Alcoa Fjardaál, VÍS Insurance and the police. They resemble twinkling stars when they walk around in their vests during the short days of the Icelandic winter.

All the students of the first and second grade elementary school level in and around the Fjardabyggd area in East Iceland,  more than 200 children, were recently presented with reflector vests from Alcoa Fjardaál, VÍS Insurance and the police in East Iceland. The children thought the vests were cool and promised to wear them every day.

Alcoa Fjardaál aims to support some community projects that promote health and safety. "We are very pleased to be able to increase the safety of children by making them more visible in the darkness of midwinter," said Gudný Björg Hauksdóttir, Safety and Health Manager for Alcoa Fjardaál, when she presented the vests in Reydarfjordur Elementary School.

Ragnheidur Davídsdóttir and Gísli Nils Einarsson, accident prevention agents for VÍS Insurance, are happy to be working with Fjardaál on this project, as one of VÍS's most important aims is to prevent accidents from happening. „Reflector vests like the ones that the children got, radiate more light than the traditional reflectors, and are therefore immensely important for accident prevention."

Alcoa Fjardaál urges grownups to drive carefully and reduce speed wherever they can expect children at play.
