New information sign on highway

There are a lot of details to attend to when a new aluminum smelter opens for operations. Last week a new information sign was set up on the highway by the Alcoa Fjardaal pot rooms.

The time had come to replace the sign that had been there since the agreement on the construction of the aluminum smelter was signed in 2003. In light of the fact that a new, fully operational aluminum smelter is now seen from the road, it seemed right for the sign to say something about the aluminum smelter's operations rather than the plans for its construction.

About one fourth of the smelter's manufacturing is devoted to the production of finished aluminum wire, and the new sign has a photograph of Thordis Arna Stefansdóttir, who works in aluminum manufacturing, and Jitka Hamrová, who works in metal processing, of aluminum wire rolls, ready for export. Hreinn Magnússon took the photograph, but the sign was designed by KOM Public Relations and Islenska auglysingastofan. Skiltaval in Reydarfjordur set up the sign.
