Brainstorming symposium held in Fjardabyggd
Effective and well-attended brainstorming symposium held in Reydarfjordur Tuesday, 10 June 2008, entitled "Spring in Fjardabyggd"
The goal of the symposium was to prepare a future vision for Fjardabyggd as a centre of high technology, where people have job security in a family-friendly, secure and international environment. The symposium was also aimed at stimulating discussion on the possibilities developing after the changes in Fjardabyggd's industrial structure and society. In addition to the Municipality of Fjardabyggd, Alcoa Fjardaal and Síldarvinnslan organized the symposium. Between 70 and 80 people attended the symposium, which was open only to invited guests. About half of the participants came from Fjardabyggd, while over 30 guests came from elsewhere – people with a lot of experience with employment affairs, local government, planning, administration and the mass media. The methodology of the brainstorming symposium was innovative and deemed very effective. All of the guests participated actively in generating ideas and group efforts. "Consequently we have got an incredible number of ideas that we reviewed and worked on," said Fjardabyggd's Mayor Helga Jónsdóttir. "It was very gratifying that so many were willing to lend us a hand and participate in creating the future here in Fjardabyggd," she said.
