Volunteers braved the bad weather

Alcoa Fjardaál’s employees kept up the good community work for the second weekend running. This time some 50 people in Eskifjördur and 11 people in Egilsstadir participated in activities under the Month of Service banner.

In Eskifjördur, Alcoa Fjardaál employees erected a new 150 metre long fence at the local horse riding club. Among the participants was Janne Sigurdsson, who braved the weather with her co-workers. "The old fence was pretty much worn down, so we had to remove it before erecting the new one. We also had to replace some of the pillars with a digger that the Bragason Brothers were so kind to lend us," says Janne.

Despite the "disgusting weather" everybody had a great time according to Janne. Once the fence was finished, the kids were taken for a short horse riding tour. And to round the day off, all participants we invited for a cake’n’coffee party.

In Egilsstadir, Alcoa Fjardaál employees demonstrated their vigour when scanning the town in search of hazardous areas for kids. The result was a thoroughly marked map, where security improvements were deemed needed. "We decided to adopt the primary school viewpoint on things during our work. When we finished our day’s work we threw a pizza party for the employees and their families," says Elfa Sigurdardóttir, an Alcoa Fjardaál employee.

Working in the mud

Alcoa Fjardaál employees, with their spouses and children, were not affected by weather conditions, and stood in the mud to set up a fence by the stalls.
