New Alcoa Fjarðaál Employees

Gudný Bjorg Hauksdottir has been hired to run the Alcoa Fjarðaál office in Reydarfjordur and tend to various general and specific tasks in preparation for Fjarðaál’s operation. Gudný has a BA in political science and media relations from the University of Iceland.  She worked for Hönnun og radgjöf from 1996, doing general office work, book-keeping and other special projects.  From 2000 she worked for Hönnun hf. doing consultancy work and assessments on the environmental impact of construction projects. From 2003 she has been responsible for information and promotional work for the same company.  Gudný is a native of Reyðarfjorður, married and has 2 children. She will start working for Alcoa Fjarðaál on 1 January 2005.

Steinthór Thórdarson has been hired to oversee the education and training of Alcoa Fjarðaál’s employees. He has a BA in psychology, teaching accreditation and is currently working on a graduate degree in education along with his current job as head of the educational centre of the University of Iceland. His previous posts include consulting to companies on education and training, as well as being the training manager and later HR manager for Baugur which is one the largest retail companies in Iceland. He has also taught various courses in adult education and upper secondary school, and edited the weekly journal Austurland (“East-Iceland”). Steinthór has two daughters and will be living in Neskaupsstadur, working from the Reydarfjordur office. He will assume his duties for Alcoa Fjarðaál on 17 January, 2005.
