10th graders plant in the Alcoa forest

Tenth grade students in Reydarfjordur planted 450 trees yesterday in an area locals are calling The Alcoa Forest, located uphill from Alcoa Fjarðaál’s constuction site. The Reydarfjordur Forestry Association prepared and organized the event, while Alcoa Fjarðaál provided plants and other supplies. This round of planting is part of the continuing effort started last year when 2007 trees were planted, symbolizing the first year of scheduled production. This time, one tree has been planted for each person that will work in the smelter. This same amount of trees will be planted yearly until the smelter starts production.
