Employee Volunteerism
In addition to direct funding for community projects, Alcoa has established three international efforts, which encourage and support employee volunteerism. This means tha Alcoa employees all over the world take part in these efforts, with the purpose of supporting charity associations and non-profit organizations. From year 2007, when the Alcoa Fjardaál smelter has started operations, the company's employees will be encouraged and supported to take part in various efforts to improve the quality of life in East-Iceland.
Alcoa's Worldwide Week of Community Service Alcoa’s annual Worldwide Week of Service, held during the week of October 2-10 last year, is a company-wide event that recognizes and encourages the volunteer efforts of thousands of Alcoans around the world. It serves as a unified timeframe for Alcoans to work in teams and individually to help nonprofits/non-governmental organizations with their efforts to improve the quality of life in Alcoa communities worldwide. 2005 Week of Service is Scheduled for October 15-22. ACTION ACTION (Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighborhoods) is an Alcoa employee engagement program managed by Alcoa Foundation. The program encourages teams of 5 or more Alcoa employees to spend a minimum of 4 hours on a community service project for a local nonprofit organization. As recognition of their efforts, Alcoa will make either a $1,500 or a $3,000 unrestricted grant (depending on the size of the team) to the nonprofit organization. Each Alcoa location around the world is eligible for $9,000 in ACTION grants, in any combination of $1,500 and $3,000 grants. Bravo! Bravo! is another Alcoa employee engagement program managed by Alcoa Foundation. Its purpose is to recognize the volunteer efforts of individual Alcoans in their communities. Once an Alcoa employee volunteers at least 50 hours at a charitable organization, a $250 grant is awarded to that organization. Employees may submit one Bravo! application per calendar year.
Qualifying organizations include nonprofit civic, health, social welfare, educational, cultural, community or governmental organizations that provide a charitable service. Organizations based outside of the United States must be publicly supported and must serve a charitable purpose. Information on the ACTION and Bravo! programs is available at all Alcoa locations around the world.
