ACTION program
ACTION is an English abbreviation: Alcoans Coming Together In Our Neighborhoods (Alcoások együtt a közösségekért). The program rewards those Alcoans, who volunteered four-hour work to benefit their community in a group of, at least, ten people at one of the local communities’ non-profit institutions. Every Alcoa company can apply annually for three ACTION donations. The group that performs the job, after having completed each ACTION program, receives a $3000 donation from the Alcoa Foundation, that is being donated to that non-profit institution where the volunteer work had been performed. This way the community, beyond the completed community work, receives a financial donation as well.
The Foundation accepts all activities as an ACTION program that complies with the ones, explained under point A. The volunteer work performed by the groups of employees can be cleaning in public places, (such as in parks), waste collection, helping construct a house for a needy family, building a bicycle road, renovating, reconstructing a non-profit institution, food preparation and distribution for homeless people, etc.
In 2002, 165 Hungarian Alcoans participated and completed the ACTION program. In Fejér county, in six day-care centers they performed gardening and painting, repaired furniture, playground equipment, and furniture. In Mór, they participated in lunch delivery for the elderly and handicapped people. Also in Fejér County, in Ácsteszér, they accomplished the work of cleaning, waste collecting, pruning and landscaping in the cemetery and around the W.W.II Memorial. In Pusztavám, they planted plants in the local elementary school. In Kisbér, they repaired the local fishermen’s pier and built new boardwalks, as well. In Mór, they cooked for the children of big families, volunteered for child supervision and prepared decorations for their charity event.
