Public Meetings January 18-21 to Provide Update on Proposed Greenland Aluminium and Hydroelectric Development Project

Public meetings will be held in Nuuk, Maniitsoq, Sisimiut, and Kangerlussuaq the week of January 18, 2010 to enable Greenland Development and Alcoa to report on their progress toward the establishment of a world-class aluminium smelter in Greenland and to seek questions and comments on the proposed project from interested parties. These meetings are a continuation of the self-rule government’s public meetings the week of January 11.

ERM, the consultancy that is preparing environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the proposed project, and their study partners will present the preliminary results of the baseline EIA studies and outline the next steps in the EIA process. The presentation materials for the meetings will be available at www.aluminium.gl and www.alcoa.com/greenland/en/proposed_smelter/meetings.asp.
The public meeting in Maniitsoq will be broadcasted live by KNR Radio.
