Spin-Lok™ Pin Fastening Collars

The Alcoa Fastening Systems Spin-Lok® Collar is a free running self locking collar for threaded pins such as Veri-Lite™, Aero-Lite™, Hi-Lok®, and Hi-Tique® fasteners. The free running feature removes the often variable torque-tension relationship associated with the prevailing torque crimp used on most threaded collars and nuts. The free running feature allows more torque to be applied to the clamp force, resulting in a higher retained clamp force for enhanced fatigue performance and better faying surface sealant flow resulting in better sealing capabilities. The wedge type lock which is formed at the end of the cycle creates a locking feature which is superior to most pre-crimped collars or nuts. This locking feature which is inside the collar does not rely on thread stick through to achieve anti-rotational locking. The collar may be visually inspected as the locking wedge gap closes when the collar is fully installed. The thread lock is developed on the leading thread through an interference fit between the nut and the base element. Spin-Lok® Collars are available in both torque controlled frangible hex drives and non-frangible designs which require torque controlled tooling.
