FRANKLIN, Tennessee--August 20, 2001--
Alcoa announced today that Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. (AFL) Telecommunications
has acquired 100% of the stock of Laser Armor Tech Corp, a manufacturer
of laser welded stainless steel tubes for optical fibers. Based in San
Diego, Calif., Laser Armor Tech is a subsidiary of the privately held
Cook Group of Bloomington, Ind. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The addition of Laser Armor Tech Corp. and its laser stainless steel
technology will help AFL maintain and grow its position as the world’s
leading cable manufacturer of Optical Ground Wire (OPT-GW),” said Frank
Larence, president of AFL Telecommunications.
Laser Armor Tech holds the patent rights, technology and licenses for
stainless steel tube manufacturing that allows for high fiber density in
small cable designs.
