Alcoa Receives Pennsylvania Governor's Highway Safety Award
PITTSBURGH--October 26, 2001--
Alcoa was recently awarded the Pennsylvania Governor's Highway Safety
Award in the Business Leadership category for its initiation and
continuing involvement in the Allegheny County Safe Driving Community
Project.
On October 19, 2001, State Transportation Secretary Bradley L. Mallory
acknowledged the award recipients during the annual Governor's Highway
Safety Conference and thanked them for demonstrating significant
leadership in promoting highway safety.
During 2000, Alcoa sponsored a "Safe Driving Communities" forum in
conjunction with the Allegheny County Safe Driving Community Project.
The forum brought together a large number of organizations, including
academic, research, law enforcement, government, industry and community
groups working toward the goal of reducing traffic fatalities and
injuries. Ultimately, the project will provide a model for reducing
traffic injuries and fatalities that can be replicated in other
communities.
