Sandra Beach Lin Named President of Alcoa's Closures Business

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 2002--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that Sandra Beach Lin, 44, has joined the company as president of Closure Systems International (CSI), the Alcoa business that produces plastic and aluminum bottle caps, plastic bottles, capping and other equipment, and supplies for worldwide packaging markets. She succeeds Ronald A. Glah, vice president of Alcoa and president of Closure Systems International, who retired March 1, 2002. Alcoa CSI currently operates 22 plants in 15 countries. Ms. Beach Lin's most recent position was president of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, part of Honeywell International.

"Alcoa is the global leader in producing closures for the beverage industry. Sandra brings broad business experience, marketing capabilities, global management skills and leadership, which are necessary attributes to run an Alcoa business successfully," said Alcoa Chairman Alain Belda.

Ms. Beach Lin has nearly 20 years of experience in the specialty chemicals, medical products and automotive components industries. She held a series of marketing, product management and sales positions for chemical manufacturer American Cyanamid for eight years until she joined Honeywell (then AlliedSignal) in 1994 in Singapore as director, Asia/Pacific, responsible for the company's Asian specialty wax business. Following this assignment, she held a succession of management positions in Honeywell's Specialty Chemicals and Automotive business units. In 2000, Ms. Beach Lin was named president of the company's Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems business, with accountability for a $500 million North American truck brake business.

Ms. Beach Lin graduated magna cum laude in 1980 from the University of Toledo in Ohio with a degree in production and general management. In 1982, she received an M.B.A. in marketing, policy and control from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
