“Together with our partners and employees in 2011, we sharpened our
mission, initiated new programs, broke records for volunteerism, and put
metrics and scorecards in place to measure our progress over time,” said
Paula Davis, President, Alcoa Foundation.
Significant achievements achieved in 2011:
-
Recycled nearly one million cans; planted more than 400,000 trees;
reduced 29.4 million pounds of CO2; and helped develop environmental
standards and measurements.
-
Reached 100,000 students through innovative environmental and STEM
programs.
-
Alcoa employees contributed more than 900,000 hours of volunteer time
to improving their communities, and a record 56 percent of employees

“We focus on the environment because as a mining, manufacturing and
engineering company, we can contribute our expertise, resources and
people to reduce, recycle, replenish and set standards. We invest in
STEM education and workforce development in manufacturing, because these
pursuits are fundamental to the long-term success of companies like
Alcoa and to societies around the world,” said Klaus Kleinfeld, Chairman
and CEO, Alcoa.
Shared value guides how Alcoa Foundation’s partnerships and initiatives
align with Alcoa’s global and regional strategies, address priority
