Glen Morrison, President of Alcoa Building and Construction Systems, Named Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council

NORCROSS, Ga.--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that Glen Morrison, President of Alcoa Building and Construction Systems, was named a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council (DFC) by the organization’s Board of Directors. The DFC is an interdisciplinary network of U.S. design, product and construction leaders looking to advance innovation and shape the future of the commercial building industry.

The honorary distinction is awarded annually to outstanding individuals who have provided noteworthy leadership to the advancement of design, design solutions, or the design profession.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Design Futures Council, and I am pleased to be associated with this forward-thinking organization dedicated to reinventing the art and business of design,” said Morrison.

In naming Morrison as a Senior Fellow, James Cramer, Co-Chairman, Design Futures Council and CEO of the Greenway Group, said: “Glen has been a global leader at Alcoa since 1991 and is a leading thinker about the integration of building products and design solutions.”

Under Morrison’s leadership, several innovative products have been introduced into the marketplace. Among them are Alcoa Architectural Products’ Reynobond® with Eco-Clean™, an aluminum architectural panel that cleans itself and the air around it, and Reynobond® with KEVLAR®, a hurricane-resistant aluminum composite panel engineered to meet the stringent requirements of the Miami-Dade Building Code. Also under Morrison’s direction, the Kawneer brand of sustainable architectural aluminum products has increased its offerings to include a range of high-performing curtain wall systems, energy-saving sunshades and hurricane-resistant framing solutions.

Morrison has been involved in several key roles for Alcoa in the building and construction industry since he joined the company in 1991 as Sales and Marketing director for Kawneer UK. He progressed to Marketing Director for Alcoa Building and Construction Systems, then General Manager of the Alcoa Architectural Products unit. This assignment was followed by Morrison’s selection as President, Kawneer North America, and in 2010 he was named President of the Alcoa Building and Construction Systems business unit. Morrison was instrumental in the 2010 acquisition of privately held Traco, a premier maker of windows and doors, which is now part of the Kawneer business. Alcoa Building and Construction Systems has 31 operating locations in 13 countries.

Morrison joins a prestigious group of architects, authors, corporate executives, and thought leaders. Members of the 2011 class include Richard Florida, one of the world’s leading public intellectuals on economic competitiveness and author of the global best-seller The Rise of the Creative Class; Carol Coletta, President and CEO of CEOs for Cities and host of PBS’ “Smart City;” and Steven Holl, principal of Steven Holl Architects. One of Holl’s most recently completed buildings is the Linked Hybrid complex in Beijing, China, third on TIME magazine’s list of Architectural Marvels of 2007. Actor and environmental advocate Brad Pitt was named a senior fellow of the organization in 2009.
