Webinar to Further Educate Naval Community on Use of Aluminum in Marine Applications

Featuring Presentations from Alcoa Defense and ABS

WASHINGTON--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that an upcoming webinar, featuring speakers from Alcoa Defense and ABS, a premier provider of marine and offshore classification services, will provide the naval community with an update on the latest aluminum ship technology for marine applications. The free one-hour webinar, Advantages of Aluminum in Marine Applications, will take place on Wednesday, April 14, at noon EDT. Naval architects, shipyards, marine original equipment manufacturers, military officials and marine engineers are encouraged to participate.

“We are excited to be able to demonstrate to the marine community how aluminum makes Navy ships lighter, faster and stronger,” said Dave Dobson, president, Alcoa Defense. “The webinar is a great opportunity to educate this community on the many recent advances in aluminum ship materials, design and manufacturing methods.”

Brett Conner, Ph.D., segment leader for Alcoa Defense’s sea systems research and development, will discuss how aluminum performs in marine environments and the ways in which Alcoa Defense assists the U.S. Navy and others to build aluminum ships. He also will share data demonstrating that aluminum ships are competitive from acquisition and total lifecycle cost perspectives.

Derek Novak, vice president of engineering for ABS, will provide an overview of ABS and discuss how ABS develops rules for aluminum ships in naval environments.
