EVANSVILLE, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that its Warrick (Indiana) Operations
has received the inaugural environmental award given during the annual
Celebration of Leadership Awards sponsored by Leadership Evansville, an
organization committed to community betterment. The awards recognize
businesses, individuals and institutions that have made significant
collaborative contributions to the community.
Nominations are made by the public, and a diverse group of local leaders
decide on the winners.
Alcoa’s Warrick plant was nominated by Dan Schenk, the chancellor of Ivy
Tech Community College. He cited Alcoa’s investments in environmental
improvements at its business and in the community, including the annual
Environmental Open House and its Household Hazardous Waste Recycling
days, as well as the willingness of the plant’s management to actively
engage with the community.
"Alcoa Warrick Operations is a regional leader in utilizing the public’s
input in improving environmental performance," the application reads.
"It has a commitment to go above and beyond…and our community is better
because of all the things that Alcoa doesn’t have to do, but does."
“This is a special recognition for us because it comes from our
community,” said Ed Hemmersbach, Warrick Rigid Packaging Location
Manager. “At Alcoa, we recognize that the success of our business is
