Alcoa Announces Winners of 2008 Tier 1 Core Truckload Carriers Awards
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today the results of its Tier 1 Core Truckload
Carrier Awards Program for 2008. The award program recognizes a select
group of Tier 1 U.S. and Canadian truckload carriers for their
outstanding commitment and service to Alcoa during 2008. Further
recognition for the leading performers in this group was also announced
as Covenant Transport of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who won the top award
for admirable van service. TMC Transportation of Des Moines, Iowa, were
honored for best-in-class flatbed service, and Remorquage St-Michel,
Inc. of St-Michel, Canada, won the Canadian carrier of the year award
for exceptional truckload service.
This year’s awards were replications of an Alcoa aluminum wheel.
In presenting the awards, Kevin Anton, President, Alcoa Materials
Management, said: “The Alcoa Tier 1 Core Carrier Program has been proven
to be a very sustainable strategy for our company the past few years and
has delivered immense value to us and our carriers. The majority of the
carriers in this group have participated since the inception of the
program, so these carriers have acquired a very clear understanding of
our operational requirements and we understand their capabilities in
transporting our products. I couldn’t be more pleased with the evolution
this program and fully support continuing it indefinitely.”
During the event, Alcoa’s Market Sector Team for Ground Transportation
introduced emerging aluminum solutions for the commercial transportation
industry. These solutions focus on the environmental advantages and fuel
efficiency benefits of utilizing Alcoa lightweight aluminum, innovative
electronic systems and fastener products.
The Alcoa Core Carrier program was created in 2005. Ed Hamorsky,
Director of Logistics and Transportation said, “We are interested in
sustaining an open business relationship with our carriers. We seek
their ideas, input and critiques. My team does not have access to the
same perspective into our business as our carriers. Subsequently, the
trust we have built over the past 4 years empowers them to give us
valuable information so we can improve safety, capacity and service in
our transportation processes.”
Selection criteria for carrier performance metrics includes volume
growth, actual delivery data population, published rate turn around
time, tender offer acceptance/expiration percentages.
In addition, specific qualifications are required to participate as an
Alcoa Tier 1 Core Carrier. These include: provide service to multiple
Alcoa businesses; cost competitive; meets Alcoa business performance
expectations, i.e., pickup, delivery and safety; reconcile loss & damage
claims and transmit advance shipping notification.
